Maribor

Monday 19th August

Explored Maribor today.  Went into town by bus - 25 min. ride for 80c.  Unless you eat in the main squares, everything is very reasonable here.

The Cathedral isn't really leaning over, it was just difficult to take a picture as so many large trees in the way!
Like all the churches we've been in, it is very ornate and we were not too sure we liked the pulpit 'arm'!

When Maribor gets fed up with this sculpture, maybe they'll offer it to Horsham??
Lunch was interesting - dollar chips (ie saute potatoes) - mine with chicken, John's with beef.  Didn't get our 5 a day there - half a cherry tomato didn't really count.

Glavni Trg - the main square with the Town Hall and the Plague Column put up in 1743 to commemorate the 17C plague.
Riverside quarter of Lent.  This is famous for the oldest vine in the world - stretching right across the white building.

It's 400 years old. Must be true because it's in the Guinness Book of Records.

Bridge over the River Drava.  Hope you can see the fountains from each of the pillars.  It's been so hot, we'd have loved to have been underneath one!
Refreshment stop by the river.
Water tower.  Doesn't hold water, it's because it is by the river.
Feet up and cooling off back 'home'.
