Hauenstein, Germany

Wednesday 7th August

First stop this morning was to fill up with fuel at the local garage costing 1.11€/ltr.  Rather cheaper than at home!

We've travelled another 100 miles, into Germany and stopping at Hauenstein Schuhmuseum Stellplatz.  We've stayed at various museums in France, but this shoe museum is a first!  This very small town of Hauenstein is the home to several shoe manufacturers and the museum building looks as though it was once a factory.  We haven't been in, except to pay the 7€ for staying in their carpark (and using their electricity) for the night.

A stroll around the town centre gave us 2 very interesting geocache finds.
The first was called a Woodcoin Hotel outside the gate of a house just opposite the museum.  12a is the number of the house, but we opened this box on the wall to reveal an inner box with a key.  Inside that was the log book to sign and several wooden 'coins' that have an individual code on them.  We have registered that we have taken one of them and will put it in another cache while on our travels.

The second was a 'virtual cache' at a sculpture of shoe-makers.  We had to answer some questions about the tools on the ground and send a photo of one of our shoes being made!  (This wasn't the photo we submitted because it would be a spoiler if it showed the items on the ground.)
Other interesting features in the town:

These are all tiles with hand-prints - we suppose of local people.
