Camping Terme, Ptuj
Tuesday 20th August
Another short journey this morning after leaving our favourite campsite yet - Kekec at Maribor - in fact we are going to write a report on how good it is to MMM (Motorhome Magazine).
We arrived at Camping Terme, close to the River Drava at Ptuj in time for lunch and then an afternoon at the Thermal Spa pools. Lost count of how many pools, but we just went in 2 of them and then dried off in the huge field that's part of the complex.
These are things we didn't do:
An evening walk gave us a view of the floodlit Castle Ptuj.
Wednesday 21st August
Today is much, much cooler again, so more suitable to exploring the town of Ptuj, one of the oldest in the country. We were just walking past the pool complex when I thought I'd take a photo of the grassy area where we dried off yesterday - but realised I'd left my camera in the van!
So today's photos were taken on the phone. Because of the 30 deg. yesterday, this field was much busier than 10 this morning!
Approaching the town from the south side of the river.

The Town Hall
The old Town Hall
In the Slovenski trg - the central square - the City Tower. There are several Roman remains around, including some tombstones that are now placed around the base of the tower.

In front is an enormous 5m tall tombstone, Orpheus Monument .
This made us laugh:

Later, we climbed the cobbled streets up to the Castle.
Great views from up there.
A visit to the castle.
Amazing tapestries.
Interesting heating! A different style in every room. This is a bedroom.

I had this one to myself for a few minutes!

Moving on a bit more again tomorrow.

Other exhibits in the castle - costumes from the Kurentovanje festival held just before Shrove Tuesday as a rite of spring. Hundreds of the main character, Kurent, parade through the town, wearing some version of these sheepskins with cowbells dangling from their belts!!
There was also a display of musical instruments and a room explaining how organ pipes work.
Late afternoon - another visit to the Terme pools. Either the cooler weather or our timing - it was nowhere near as busy as yesterday.

I had this one to myself for a few minutes!

Moving on a bit more again tomorrow.
