Malta, Austria - Bad Aibling & Rottenbuch, Germany
Sunday 1st September
Before we left Malta this morning, we drove up the valley to the parking for the Fallbach waterfall that we'd seen from our walk yesterday.
A valley view while approaching the falls.

If you look closely on the rock face, you will see some 'ants' ...
... these are 3 of the 5.
Looking south to the Austrian/Slovenian alps.
We would have loved to have had some small children with us visiting the waterfall because the hillside leading up has been transformed into the most amazing children's playground using some streams of the tumbling water. There are all sorts of things to climb on, paddle in, sit on and play with.
Then we left the Maltatal, drove north to Salzburg on the motorway, queued to get into Germany(!) and decided that we would enjoy the slower, more scenic route to our next destination than being stuck in heavy traffic. So good to have the time to make these sort of decisions.
We passed by the north of Chiemsee and through some lovely Bavarian scenery...
and reached the small town of Bad Aibling - the attraction being another spa town.
We just about squeezed into the Camperstop - quite a large one, but very busy and had a short walk to suss out the Therme and walk by the River Mangfall.
There was a geocache to be found, down at the base of a tree beside the fast-flowing river. John got down there to retrieve the little box and we were just signing the logbook when this lanky young fellow appeared beside us with his pen in his hand! So we let him put it back!
That was just before we reached the point where 2 rivers met.
We had a meal at the Therme during the evening and found out the best time to go to the pools would be 10 o'clock in the morning.
Monday 2nd September
No pictures, but the pools were very different to others we've been to, and just as amazing. We sampled all the indoor ones and then went out into the chilly drizzle in even warmer water. One of the indoor pools had a whirlpool which was fun, but the outdoor one was so strong that John watched me wizz round 3 times before I managed to get out of the flow - with a helping hand from him!
After an hour or so we were feeling a little pickled, so rested on the loungers. We heard an announcement which we couldn't understand of course. As we'd watched a chap taking samples of the water at various locations, John reckoned it was saying that a toxic substance has been found in the water, so everyone get out. But it turned out that it must have been saying that the aquafit class was about to begin! Quite fun watching from the side though! (Very fit young male instructor!!)
So after another dip here and there, we returned to our van and set off for pastures new.
Still raining on and off, we took another scenic route to the village of Rottenbuch, just a few miles north of Oberammergau. We won't go there this time, but we have great memories of our time there in 2010 watching the famous Passion Play.

Having seen the highest waterfall in Slovenia, this is the highest in Austria.
