Ljubljana to Recica ob Savinji to Preserje Camperstop

Well ... these last two days have gone from the Sublime to the Ridiculous to Rain to Sublime again ...

Thursday 15th August

Leaving Hotel Kanu at Smlednik, it was a short journey to the Ljubljana Park & Ride.  From there we got a free ride on the bus into the city because John couldn't fathom how to buy tickets from the machine and the driver was waiting to go and just shrugged his shoulders and called him back to the bus!

We had 5 'sublime' hours in the beautiful city of Ljubljana.

We had visited the castle on the hill with it's amazing views when we were here in 2016 so didn't do that this time.
But we did enjoy a super lunch at Robba's!

And later watched our ice creams being made.  John chose 'death by chocolate'.  First stage chopping chocolate biscuit with milk/yogurt on an iced metal plate.
My 'raspberry & strawberry classic' being scraped over the plate.

When frozen, it's scraped into several rolls
and squeezed into a little pot, squirted with 2 chocolate sauces, sprinkles and biscuit! The fruit one got the same topping treatment!
John's finished article:
Sat on the nearest seat in the sunshine to enjoy them.

Then came the 'ridiculous'.  We drove to Camping Menina near Recica ob Savinji on the River Savinja that had an excellent rating - we thought perhaps 2 or 3 days to chill out.  It turned out to be the most worn out, packed, all-singing-all-dancing, overpriced site ever!  We were taken on a golf trolley to see the pitches available but in fact it was a case of squeeze in here or maybe there ... We wandered around the site later, watching youngsters on the zip wire, the GoApe equivalent and chaps playing paddle football on the lake! It is a holiday weekend here (Thurs - Sun) so perhaps it could be quieter other times ....
However, it did have washing machines and I was in need of one (John running out of pants) so bought a jeton at reception and set it going.  As soon as it started, it went straight into 'spin' - no water in there yet.  Fortunately reception is open till late, so we were given another jeton to start it again, this time in a different machine.  All went well - with the set programme lasting 2 hrs(!), went to collect it at 8.45, open the machine door and out poured gallons of water - didn't reach spin! Shut it quickly, back to reception for help - another jeton - nothing happened.  By now 1 min. past 9 - reception closed.  So left it and went to bed ...
But then soon after we'd settle, the rain started.  It wasn't a storm, but was relentless so that in the morning ....

Friday 16th August

.... it became puddle city!
We puddle-hopped to visit our washing - no change.  Young chap from office explained that the site had problems with the electricity during the evening, work was being done right now to repair a cable, maybe get our washing to spin in a couple of hours ....  Well, we'd already decided to leave, had a lengthy breakfast and eventually departed at 11 with spun washing in a bag...

... travelled about 10 miles to a delightful camperstop at Preserje at nearly a quarter of the price, loads of space, washing dried in no time.  It's an interesting place, because the blue container is for waste newspapers and a group of people with learning difficulties were ferried backwards and forwards in a people carrier, bringing in bundles of papers.  We then realised that this job was just for the men - the ladies were cleaning and hoovering the ground floor of the building, which we think must be used as a day centre for them.  We assume the owner lives upstairs.
Later we needed to walk (backs feeling a bit easier some of the time, but both benefit from moving), first seeing the nearby stream and fishing ponds and a drink at the pub

then ignoring a few spits of rain,
to the next village on the River Savinja.  We passed some lovely houses, all with lots of space around them, pretty gardens usually with a veg patch.  They are all very keen on runner beans.

Serving up dinner in our garden.

So today we've been restored to the 'sublime'.
